The #1 barrier to creative writing for students is the dreaded blank page and the Intergalactic Bestiary is the perfect solution for this!
Over the past decade, I have been working with non-profit organizations facilitating writing workshops in equity-deserving communities. Despite the best strategies and intentions, students will often struggle to get started. This website will transform these barriers into bridges. By pressing a random generator button, students will receive a character profile that includes various traits, motivations, and potential plot elements. With the help of some of my wonderful Kid Lit Artist Friends, this tool is designed to serve as a springboard for creative writing, encouraging students to build stories around their generated characters and hopefully nurture a lifelong love for creativity and storytelling.
Stay tuned for Phase 2 when we build a physical hands-on installation! Story Planet storefront and The Word on the Street Festival visitors (Booth D22) will be able to mix, match, and create original characters in real life!
